WLIW introduces the multi-platinum Portuguese-African fado singer in her first U.S. concert special. An urban folk music dating back to the 19th century, fado is Portugal’s brand of soulful blues: deeply melancholic and filled with longing. Mariza’s mesmerizing alto, enthusiasm and commanding stage presence make her distinctive interpretation of the genre as infectious as modern-day pop. This enchanting performance at the Tower of Belém garden includes the songstress’ greatest hits “Loucura,” “Maria Lisboa” and “Ó Gente Da Minha Terra,” and her latest smash “Transparente,” off her new studio album. Backed by Portuguese guitar and full orchestra, the Sinfonietta de Lisboa conducted by Jaques Morelenbaum, Mariza’s memorable performance is sure to spark a new romance with American audiences. Plus, Mariza will be live in the WLIW21 studio to speak about fado, her Lisbon concert taping, upcoming U.S. tour, and movie role!

Two tracks from the Ravi Shankar album 'RAVI SHANKAR: THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC' (TSQ-CD-9051) have been licensed for use in the latest Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore blockbuster 'Music and Lyrics'. The tracks used are "GHANASHYAM” and “RAGA RAJYA-KALYAN".

Recorded in 2005, 'Concerto em Lisboa' took place in the gardens in front of Torre de Belem (Belem Tower), a famous and beautiful neighborhood of Lisbon, with a magnificent view of the city on the banks of Tejo River, Mariza's voice soared above the orchestra conducted by Jaques Morelenbaum enrapturing the assembled audience. The set was perfect for an evening that will always be remembered by her countless fans who were present, and who will have the good fortune of seeing it now on DVD.

The orchestra 'Sinfonietta de Lisboa' was conducted by Jaques Morelenbaum, the producer and arranger of Mariza's most recent album, 'Transparente'; and also famous for being the 'man behind the work' of Caetano Veloso during the past 15 years.
