El reconocido grupo puertorriqueño, Plena Libre, nominados en tres ocasiones a los Premios Grammys, está celebrando su décimo aniversario con la salida al mercado internacional de su décima grabación ¡Estamos Gozando!, el 8 de Junio bajo el sello Times Square.

On her international début album Tango Varón, Sandra performs classics such as Homero Manzi and Anibal Troilos Ché Bandoneón and the poignant, tremulous Lejana Tierra Mia, first recorded by Carlos Gardel, as well as post-1940s numbers by Astor Piazzolla and Atilio Stampone. With Carritos Cartoneros, she brings the genre right up to date with a song about the impoverished cardboard gatherers who come out at dusk in Buenos Aires to claim its recyclable waste and earn a few pesos.

At the heart of Bonga’s music is his characteristic voice. As Gerald Seligman writes in Songlines, “The inimitable voice is back—raspy, scratchy, sandpaper smooth—and the accomplished songwriting is couched in arrangements that are tasteful, understated and lovingly rendered.” On Kaxexe, which means “In Hiding,” his voice is front and center, with a supporting cast of acoustic guitars, bass, accordion, percussion, and fluid back-up vocalists.

Originally released in the summer of 1999, Dum Dum Project’s first studio album Desi Vibes became an instant underground hit in US hip urban centres, receiving airplay on influential stations on the East and West Coast. Considered a standard in US downtempo and leftfield circles, the release soon began to make its impression on the worldwide DJ scene.
